Held annually on the final Saturday of The Islay Festival (Fèis Ìle), Ardbeg Day is a global celebration of all things Ardbeg. Celebrated on Islay and around the world, Ardbeg Day has become one of the biggest events in the whisky calendar.
This year the Atlantic Coast meets the Sicilian Coast as we honour this year’s Limited Edition – Ardbeg Dolce.

PRODUCT INSPIRATION

Inspired by the golden age of 1960s Italian cinema, Ardbeg Dolce blends Mediterranean charm with Ardbeg’s bold, rugged spirit. Matured in Sicilian Marsala wine casks and classic bourbon barrels, it balances sweet flavours of apricot, marmalade and dark chocolate with notes of roasted nuts and smoky applewood. Sicilian sweet meets Islay Peat.

Aroma:

Rich and complex, the smoke is softened – mellowed by bursts of apricot, plump raisins, sticky date and tangy stewed apple. Orange marmalade lifts it all with a citrusy brightness. A splash of water reveals the deeper, earthier layers: roasted mushrooms, pine needles, salted fish, capers and olives. An Islay pantry meets a Sicilian garden.

Taste:

Spices lead the way in cinnamon, star anise and a flicker of liquorice heat. Then the sweetness unfolds with maple-smoked wood, baked dates with walnuts, honeycomb and dark chocolate. Dried fruits follow close behind, wrapped in lemon rind and balanced by a savoury twist of salted nuts and dried herbs. 

Finish:

The finish is long and layered, with smoked applewood, drying tobacco, bonfire embers and rich, chewy peat oils

INTENSITY OF DENSITY
Experimenting with a process called ‘high gravity mashing’, our intrepid whisky creators vastly decreased the amount of water in the mash tun, then packed more grain into the mix than ever before. Crushing and compressing every drop of liquid, this unconventional mash has magnified the intensity of flavour-active acetate esters. Ramping up the density of wort to astronomical levels, we’ve drawn in fruitier, sweeter flavours from the deepest corners of the mash tun. 
 
TUNS OF FLAVOUR
Taste the emergence of an awe-inspiringly fruity Ardbeg. Notes of muscovado sugar swirl alongside searing aromas of ripening barley and toasted sourdough bread, while sweet peat smoke orbits ripe tropical fruits. Plunge your palate into a crushing mouthfeel that implodes in on itself with intensely rich, creamy flavours. 

High Gravity Mash experiment, matured in Classic Bourbon cask, ABV 48.3%. 70cl.

Aroma:

An explosion of fruity, estery notes, reminiscent of smoked bubblegum, fuse with whiffs of ripening barley and toasted sourdough bread. A splash of water reveals dense, sweet, and aromatic peat smoke, accompanied by gently smoked tropical fruits.

Taste:

A rich, creamy mouthfeel drifts into sharp, sooty and spicy notes of creosote, aniseed, and clove. Tempered by the distinct sweetness of muscovado sugar, robust woody notes orbit rich charcoal.

Finish:

Finally, in an almost infinite finish, earthy peat moss fuses with sizzling bonfire embers.
